Biography

Training & credentials

Paul completed his MBBS with First Class Honours at the University of Queensland in 2013, training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Alfred Health, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre before becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR) in 2021. A two-year fellowship under Dr Pat Bowden gave him direct experience across more than 250 supervised courses of stereotactic radiotherapy for oligometastatic disease. Dr Conway now collaborates with Dr Pat Bowden, leveraging their combined expertise to benefit patients. He has studied Proton Beam Therapy in Japan and is trained and credentialed in the CyberKnife stereotactic radiosurgery system.

Precision cancer care

Paul treats the full range of cancers, with particular focus on urologic cancers, particularly prostate cancer, alongside gastrointestinal, breast, lung, CNS and oligometastatic disease. He is one of a small number of Australian radiation oncologists trained and credentialed on the CyberKnife system, a robotic radiosurgery platform delivering sub-millimetre precision with real-time tumour tracking, and in 2025 treated Australia’s first CyberKnife prostate cancer patient at 5D Clinics Melbourne. Dr Conway has a keen interest in incorporating advanced technologies in providing care for his patients. He is currently incorporating next-generation dynamic imaging with the latest Quadra PET/CT technology for more precise radiotherapy planning and treatment.

Precision joint care

Alongside his oncology practice, Paul completed postgraduate studies in musculoskeletal management through the University of Otago, covering joint pathology, biomechanics, pain mechanisms and evidence-based clinical decision-making. He furthered this through the Radiotherapy Academy for Benign Conditions (RT-ABC), an international program focused on patient selection, dosing and the evidence base for low-dose radiotherapy in non-malignant conditions. He now leads Pinpoint’s low-dose radiotherapy service for osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, tendinopathies and related conditions.

Research & academic roles

Dr Conway’s current research interests centre on advancements in imaging and treatment technologies. His research includes dynamic PET imaging and novel tracer technology to improve disease detection and characterisation for precise treatment planning. He is actively involved in the follow-up of the TRANSFORM trial, led by Dr Pat Bowden, which is the largest study of its kind in the world investigating the use of stereotactic radiotherapy for treating oligometastatic prostate cancer. He serves as the Radiation Oncology representative on the Medical Advisory Committee at John Fawkner Private Hospital and is an active member of the Trans-Tasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG).

Where Paul practises

Paul consults and treats across Icon Cancer Centre sites in Melbourne and Canberra, as well as at 5D Clinics Melbourne for CyberKnife treatment, with accommodation available for patients travelling from interstate or abroad.
